Season 3 Analysis - Overview

Now that Season 3 has concluded, it's time to start digging in on all the meaty symbolism, foreshadowing and corollary characters (vardogers, i.e. doppelgangers). And this season is loaded with goodies for our perusal. In the next few essays, I plan to review the episodes one at a time, attempt some analysis, and then hopefully, entertain your comments and ideas. Remember, please don't be shy about posting your counterpoints, because all manner of discussion can be fun for us. You don't have to agree with me to be my friend.

About Doppelgangers & Vardogers

The doppelganger character theory as applied here means this. Two of the main undead characters of True Blood (Bill and Eric) are each known to have a live doppelganger corresponding character. Please note: This is an adaptation of the doppelganger method as I believe it's being used in True Blood. It's not something which precisely matches all the many definitions of the term doppelganger. It's a literary use which fits the constraints of the Sookie Stackhouse books and the fictional area of Bon Temps, Louisiana.

The two doppelganger pairs I write about here are Jason-Eric (Jason is the lead doppelganger, Eric is the following doppelganger; this is in terms of chronology, i.e. "who enacts the scenario first and who enacts the corollary scenario second") and Lafayette-Bill (Lafayette lead, Bill follower).
Many of my posts involve application of the doppelganger theory of predicting characters events. The reason why doppelgangers (mirror-image characters) occur in True Blood is because Bon Temps is a Supernatural Crossroads, per information provided by Claudine in Book 4 of the Sookie Stackhouse series.

CONSTRAINTS:Currently defined constraints regarding the doppelganger theory as used in the context of True Blood event prediction include the following:1. There is a lead doppelganger and a following doppelganger. Chronologically speaking, the leader experiences a life-altering event first. The follower experiences it second.2. The event being mirrored must be life-altering by both members of the pair in the sense that it changes their viewpoints or how they lead their lives in an important and similar way(s).3. When the event is experienced by the following doppelganger, it will not be all the same, but will have the major and influential parts net out the same effect in much the same way as the lead doppelganger.4. Doppelgangers are made possible in the Bon Temps area because, per Claudine in Book 4, Bon Temps is a spiritual crossroads, a hotbed of supernatural activity and a place where if it can happen supernaturally, it will probably happen here. There are many variations on the doppelganger theory.

Please see the following but keep in mind that the doppelangers are both alive in this application, made possible, again because this is Bon Temps.

I believe that in True Blood, doppelgangers/vardogers are used in the sense that the chronology is reversed and the live person performs the actions before their ghostly (vampire) double.

As I continue working with these correlations, I will add more constraints since, in my opinion, a theory isn't worth much without rules laid out in advance of the test.
